cadillac gm general motors test drive questions faq

By Liz

And finally, the last round of answers to your most-recent FAQs! Keep them coming.

Overseas/International Tests:

A few folks have asked us about the testing we do outside of our home country, and whether we are responsible for that, or if we call upon folks in those local areas. By and large it is myself, Rob and our team based in Michigan that do the great majority of the tests no matter where they occur. Rob, for example, blogged about his driving in Sweden, and he will be on his way to Germany for more testing very soon. On occasion, we draw upon “local” experts from our extended GM family in other regions of the world, such as Europe or China. But that’s fairly rare. We’re developing cars with the intent of consistent excellence anywhere in the world . . . so we like to have a team that has knowledge of conditions and requirements all over the world.

Training and Selection of Track Drivers:
We’ve had several questions about how we select and train the folks that do our high-speed track driving, such as at the Nurburgring, a photo of which appears here. Suffice it to say that this is extensive, and we’ve built a lot of expertise in this area. Rob will be posting more about this very soon, so stay tuned.

Durability Testing:
This was a great question a few of you asked. Thank you. We did show you recently examples of pretty rugged tests involving temperature and mud/dirt. We’ll be featuring more pics and videos on this in the coming weeks. There’s a very formalized and demanding rigor put into reliability and durability testing, and it happens on a constant basis. We'll have more to come about this ...

V-Series!
Got your attention there, eh? Yes, we’re testing the next-generation CTS-V as you might have seen elsewhere online via spot photos and videos. That’s about all I can say about that! Seriously, the current 400-hp CTS-V that we’ve been selling to high acclaim for the past few years is going on a short hiatus while we launch the next-generation CTS. Of course, we’ll be bringing back the high-performance CTS-V in the not-too-distant future. And that means we certainly are developing early prototypes now, and we hope to share a little bit of that with you on this blog. So keep your eyes peeled.

Hi Liz,

Just wondering, with the release of the GM online order guide for the '08 CTS and all packages announced, when can we expect to know prices for the vehicle and those announced packages?

PS: Gotta say, that Black Cherry looks like it may be the way to go possibly :)

How do you get the wonderful job that you have? I'm considering a bachelor's degree in automotive engineering technology (I'm already in an associate's GM ASEP program), and it seems like this is something that could be done with that degree. Just wondering if I'm on the right track.

Where can I find the aforementioned online order guide for the new CTS?

I tried posting it but it wouldn't let me sorry Randy.

Anyway, anyone know what we are "staying tuned" for? I'm excited but losing hope as I check daily and see no updates, boo :)

"Stay tuned" refers to some posts we'll be doing later this month from some really important ride trips. This will include Nurburgring, as the photo on this post indicates.
As for pricing, that's not really our department! Cadillac.com will have those details later this summer - that's their department! Generally, cars like the CTS tend to start somewhere in the $30-40,000 range. CTS is no exception.

Ok a few questions for you about the CTS...1) will the back seats be able to fold down? If so 60/40 I am assuming 2) will the 300 hp model be all wheel drive 3) will it have bluetooth 4) Is a ski rack capable of being added to the top 5) being a current Cadillac owner how early can one of these be delivered if purchased ahead of time?

As a response to Randy Haines' question (May 3, 2007) regarding where to find the online order guide for the '08 CTS... enter the following into the address field of your browser:
http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/dmdindex.htm
This brings you to the GM Online Order/Reference Guide home page. Select the model year (2008) and select Cars/Light Trucks. At the next page click on the Cadillac wreath, which brings up the Cadillac section of the Order/Ref Guide. Click on 'CTS' in the "Select Model" drop-down box.

will the all wheel drive cts 2008 be svailable with a six speed "stick". i will order it now if it is so equipped

Are you considering paddle shifters in future CTS's

Thank you,

Joe T

Please consider CTS-V auto/paddle shifter. I presently have a Z06 and can't bring another standard home, there'll be trouble in River City.

Please let us know when the AWD w/ 6 speed will be available. Any details yet for the 2 door coupe?

Does anyone know when and if the new 2008 Cadillac CTS will be shipped with the B20 option included. Currently all the CTSs I've seen have stated that the unit was produced without that option included in the Luxury Collection Premium Option PDQ. I spoke with a dealer and he stated that the car may never be produced with that option. I have asked GM via e-mail but no response.
