A Special Preview in Germany

As I mentioned here, our latest trip to Germany (and the famed Nuerburgring) was back in June. After we did our own testing and development, we did something unique and interesting that car enthusiasts all over the world will be able to see. We conducted a special preview of the 2008 CTS for some of the world’s top auto journalists, giving them a chance to do what we do – drive the car on the Autobahn, Nuerburgring and other German roads.

In fact, we set up two days of driving and testing arranged very much like how we developed the car ourselves, and much like what we talk about on this blog, actually.

Check the web and your local bookstore, newsstand or mailbox. The reports from some of the world’s top car magazines and websites will start appearing any day now. Of course, this being an early preview of the car at the Nuerburgring, we were very limited in the number of journalists we could bring. So this was a very exclusive opportunity. We’ll be enabling test drives all over the world once full production begins in the coming weeks. I’ll post a few more details of this special drive in Germany in the next few days.

In the print version of the AutoWeek article on the preview event, they mention that manual transmission equipped cars will not have an electronically activated parking brake due to a problem with the supplier.

My question is then, how is the parking brake activiated on the cars equipped with automatic transmissions? If the activation mechanism for initial product is a mechanical pedal, is electronic activation of the parking brake planned for introduction later this year?

I'm used to having an unobstructed "dead pedal" for my left foot and would find it anoying to have my shoes being scratched by a mechanical parking brake pedal that gets in the way.

It looks as if Edmunds.com had the chance to partake of this event, as they have put up a preview of the 2008 CTS: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FirstDrives/articleId=101188 . I just hope that the rumors of eventually bringing a diesel to the States are true.

Well the CTS is running down the assembly line and eagarly awaited by both dealers and customers. Favorable reviews have been thrown like rose pedels in front of the parade of virgins.

OK, pat yourselves on the back. Job well done!

Now, maybe we can get a blog going about the new V AND WHEN CAN WE EXPECT IT AND HOPEFULLY IT'S NOT A YEAR AWAY.

Rob/Liz,

Are there any changes or improvements planned on the Aisin 6-speed for the coupe? There have been almost unanimous complaints about the manual stick so far, and it seems like Cadillac never planned to spend any money to make improvements over the '07 in this area. Or, is this an example of the cheap beancounters at it again? I really hope that it's not too late for the coupe to go on a diet, put in an improved sport package complete with AWD, and improve the manual tranny so you can trounce BMW once and for all. And for crying out loud, what's up with the floor mounted ebrake?. I hope somebody got fired over that screw up.
