There’s been a lot of excitement lately around Cadillac. Believe me, even though we in the development world are a little bit removed from that as we work on future cars and feature, it’s still exciting for us to when people finally can see what we’re working on.
Having said that, here’s something you might have missed. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the CTS as its Top Safety Pick for 2008, only one of three luxury cars so honored. While this maybe is not as flashy of an award as some of the others, it’s really meaningful to us – lots of consumers respect their findings and this is a real testament to the safety and structure engineers we work with who put incredible analysis and work into the car.

I've been reading this blog for some months now, back to last Spring I believe, and it's fantastic. Cadillac is my favorite car company, and the CTS righ now is the car that I would buy, hands down, if I could afford it. You guys have done an excellent job on this new model and it makes me proud that this is an American car.

Please convence GM that Cadillac need a technoligy leading OHC V8 to truly compete with Lexus,Mecedes,BMW and the rest of the luxury car field. They not only this V8 to compete with these cars now but also to position themselves for what should be thier ultimate goal the ULTRA LUXURY catagory. That way the V8 will be avalable to Buick who will take on the challange of BMW ,Lexus, Mecedes and the rest of the luxury group. Without that V8 they won't even be able able to succesfully compete with the existing luxury cars and absolutely no chance of moving upscale. While the OHC V8 may not be a nessary thing it is a perception thing. In the luxury and ultra luxury field perception goes a long ways. it is a perception thing

I read that GM cancelled its OHC V8 program. Is this true?

Yes, the CTS did win the award for safety. But they did it because they changed the seats to ones with active headrests.
Prior to this the cTS had a rating of poor for their seats.
And they switched over to these seats when?
My CTS was built just before Christmas, do I have the "safe"seats?

Taking on a couple of questions:
- Cadillac just made big news announcing the 550-hp V8 powered CTS-V. That should be fairly "competitive," eh?
- Seriously, V8s are a big part of Cadillac (Esalade, V-Series, etc.) That will continue to be the case with no major near-term changes to Cadillac's engine lineup. Like anything else, plans can be subject to change. We remind you that Cadillac is just about the only brand that offers BOTH an excellent OHC V8 (Northstar) and an excellent OHV V8 (small block/Escalade/V.) Both are great. Any engine afficionado knows the incredible history and development of that small-block V8. It's a great asset that performs beautifully, OHC or otherwise!
